Outline - Bench Building

Building A Bench: The Thought Process

                It takes a lot of brainstorming and planning in order to construct a bench like ours. We originally wanted to do garden cleanup for our ESLP project, but everyone's schedules were very busy, so we decided to build a bench instead. Our organization went like this:

  1. I (Sam) would write the Outline
  2. Ian would gather materials for the bench on the weekend of March 17-18
  3. Abel would help Ian get materials for the bench and would write the Budget Statement
  4. Katarina would write up the Activity Log and the Timeline (sometime before the project was due)
  5. Ian would build the bench the following weekend, March 24-25
  6. We would turn in the bench and Project Portfolio by Friday

           Unfortunately, our group ran a bit behind when executing these steps so we ended up doing everything right up against the deadline, except for Ian (he built the bench last weekend). We agreed on having a red bench, and it looks great thanks to our somewhat organized planning and Ian's bench-building skills.

Project Activity Log

Ian: 03/27: I forgot to write my activity last weekend so I am writing it today. I got the stuff and built the bench and painted it last weekend. Sam:  03/29 - Today I finally did the Outline, and added pictures to the blog. Ian has already finished the bench at this point, so I wrote our original thought process for building the bench in the Outline,  had we not procrastinated. Katarina: 03/28 - Ian finished up the bench this past weekend, so today we started working on posting to the blog. Abel and I worked on the timeline and I finished the budget statement because Abel could not work on it at home. Abel: 03/28 - Katarina helped me with the timeline of everything we did for our project. I also started working on the budget statement from the receipts that Ian had.

Timeline

February 27 - We started brainstorming what our project could be. We want it to be something we can plausibly finish within in the allotted time limit, and something that will benefit the garden project in some way. March 5 - We finally decided to build a bench. Benches help the the garden system by allowing people to observe the ecological climate of our garden. March 6 - We should start researching bench plans and materials by now. March 11 - We should have all the necessary materials by this time. March 17 - We should start building the bench today, and have it done by the end of the weekend. March 25 - The bench should be completely built and painted by then. March 30 - The bench should be installed.
